Freya was an offshoot of eAthena which was written by software developer Tsuyuki and MagicalTux. Its intended purpose was to try and create a more Aegis-compliant version of Athena which would more accurately focus on the game mechanics seen in AEGIS and on creating a more stable version of eAthena[1][2]
