Ragnarok World Championship (2004)
The Ragnarok World Championship (2004) was a single-elimination tournament event (referred to as a "tournament-style battle royale") which took place between Ragnarok Online guilds in various regions of Ragnarok Online.
The Event
On the 17th of April 2004, jRO and kRO opened the website for RWC 2004, and between 23rd April 2004 and 5 May 2004, Japanese Ragnarok Online allowed for guilds to enter into the RWC2004, with a crusader NPC which was stationed in Izlude allowing people to sign their guild up for the event.
The guilds which were registered there then entered into qualifying matches on various of the Ragnarok Online servers at times between 11:00-23:10 on Saturday 29th May 2004 and, between 11:00-16:10 on Sunday 30th May 2004, with each match taking place on a different Ragnarok Online Worlds, presumably to distribute the traffic caused by the increased demand of the event.
Rules
24 guilds participated in each world (Loki, Sara, etc.) and selected from between 9 and 11 members, with only 9 members being allowed to participate in a match at one time. Alliances between guilds was not allowed, risking disqualification. The use of skills "Teleport", "Warp Portal", and "Play Dead" were prohibited, and use of Dead Branches was also prohibited. Anyone who disconnected during the match was returned to their previous save point and not the battle map
A temporary map (referred to as the "gathering map") was created at the time for these matches to occur within, and each guild had to arrive 10 minutes before their scheduled time to ensure everyone was ready. The matches themselves had a 5 minute time limit, and in the finals the time limit was 10 minutes with 10 minutes overtime. In the event of the time limit elapsing without a clear winner, then the winner was determined by the guild with the highest guild level, and failing that if both guilds had the same level, the guild with the highest amount of guild experience.
Japanese Qualifying Rounds
In the Japanese qualifying rounds, held on the 29th and 30th of April the following Guilds registered. The results were as follows:
