Coca Cola x Ragnarok Online Event (Ragnarok Online)
The Coca Cola x Ragnarok Online event was a promotional event held on Japanese Ragnarok Online as a part of a tie-in with soft-drink manufacturer Coca Cola and Japanese convenience store chain Lawson. In its first iteration in August 2008, the event featured a replica Lawson Shop which appeared near to the fountain in the middle of the map in Prontera. The shop originally appeared in Japanese Ragnarok Online (jRO) between 12 August 2008 and 30 September 2008[1], and then later again between 10 March 2009 and 29 April 2009.
2008 Event[edit | edit source]
The 2008 event featured the replica Lawson shop in the center of prontera, with Coca Cola Vending machines outside selling Coca Cola Zero, Coca Cola Zero Calories, Coca Cola and Fanta products. People buying a variety of Coca Cola products, some exclusive to Japan, would enter a code displayed in the cap of the bottle on the then enter it in the website to be entered into a prize draw for items in-game. Three separate tranches of identical prizes were offered depending upon the item bought such as Coke, Fanta, and Japanese tea drinks Karada Meguru Tea and Kochakaden Royal Milk Tea.[1][2] The vending machine included outside of the Lawson shop, likely was a reproduction of an existing vending machine in Japan which resembled the shape of a Coca-Cola can.
2009 Event[edit | edit source]
The 2009 event was slightly expanded beyond the first event, in that it added an interior to it and additional quests provided by the NPCs which allowed users to trade in items for the headgear items.[3]

Coke Interior/coke room[edit | edit source]
The interior was accessed by the "Secret Guide" NPC, which required a "Limited Shop Entrance" ticket, which allowed the user to enter the shop, which was a separate map to Prontera called evt_coke.
Inside the shop were several modern and vintage Coca-Cola posters, as well as a bar which featured a large Coca-Cola bottle and bottles of coke on the shelves, as well as the Coca-Cola polar bear mascot and Coke hats. The layout has a design which incorporates a 1950s United States Diner motif, and also features tables which are stocked with ice and glass bottles of Coca Cola.
The sofas shown in the shop are a rough approximation of a 1940s Coca-Cola "cooler sofa" which had a v-shaped white section on the upper part of sofa but which is much wider in the real version. These seats served as both sofas and coolers for storing and cooling Coca Cola bottles underneath the seat cushion.
At the time the both promotions were running, Coca-Cola offered prizes for the now-defunct application Coca-Cola Park which would allow players to redeem for bottles of coke at the many vending machines around Japan. It is likely that the design shown in this map also approximates the design of various rooms shown in visitors centers of Coca-Cola bottlers and plants around Japan.
